About CERMET

Tittle: Additive manufacturing of customized ceramic dental implants subsequently joined with biodegradable metal cores.

Acronym: CERMET

Aim: The enhancement of Polish - Taiwanese communication and cooperation by the creation of international consortium. The project involve highly relevant areas of work related to materials engineering, which will strengthen the scientific and technological capacity, research excellence and innovation of the participating institutions, due to multidisciplinary approach and the complementary expertise of the partners.

This Project's main objectives are as follows: The main objective is to produce customized dental ceramic implants joined with biodegradable metal cores and coated using the PEO method. The quality of ceramic - metal bonding will be widely investigated by the means of microscopic observation, examination of thermal expansion and mechanical properties testing.

Expected results: The overall aim of the project is to develop parts combined from 3D printed ceramic structures joined with metal core. Hovewer, the main objective is to produce customized dental implants, which are made of composite material. The project will be produce ceramic (alumina) preforms using AM method and then  infiltrated with a biocompatible magnesium alloy (for testing, pure or selected Mg alloy).

Summary of the project: The proposal of new implants is based on the mimicking of the human tooth including its root vias 3D scanning. An exact replica of the tooth has been created using AM methods and biocompatible metal - ceramic composite materials, with a modified surface using the PEO coating methods.
